Many vets and charities euthanize healthy pigeons for no reason. Most pigeons heal well, including the ones who look really, really bad. There are places for him if he loses a leg or never flies again - yes, even in your country.
"will he get me sick?"
Thousands of pigeon feeders and rescuers pick pigeons up everyday with their bare hands. You can wear gloves, use a towel, or wash your hands very well after if it makes you feel more comfortable.

catching techniques

hand catching
Most rescuers prefer to catch pigeons by hand.
Instead of trying to catch him, try to gently pin him to the ground. Then, wrap your hand around his wings and feet. Press his wings against his body with your thumb and fingers so he can not open them.
using food
To make a pigeon more easy to catch, give him a huge pile of food that is more than he has ever seen before.
Pigeons are easiest to catch in the morning, when they are hungry.
using open windows and doors
This technique works best for lost pet pigeons and racing pigeons who are outside your home. It also works well for sick or injured "wild" pigeons who are self-rescuing by visiting you for food or sitting outside your window. These types of pigeons will often walk into your home if you leave a window or door open.
You can also lead a pigeon into your home by using food. Be aware that he may panic, and fly into your windows or mirrors once he realizes the he is trapped inside. After a pigeon is inside your home, he will be easiest to catch with the lights off, because they have poor night vision
using traps
here are some ideas...
You can use a cat carrier box, which you can then use to bring the pigeon home
someone on a local animal-rescue facebook group may be able to loan you a trap
using nets
Round nets on a stick (butterfly nets) are usually not used, because they scare the pigeon before you can catch him.
using a long sheet net - two people needed
To do this technique, you will need another person to help and a long, flat sheet of "anti bird netting".
This type of net should be thin and nearly invisible, so the pigeon will not be scared of it when it is over top of him. The sheet of netting should be at least a few metres long (ten feet), or longer, so that one person can hold each end of it, and walk the invisible sheet over the pigeon without him noticing. Then, calmly and quickly drop the net sheet over the pigeon. When the pigeon is trapped under the net, carefully grab him before he can get out.
You can purchase "anti-bird netting" and home and garden supply stores

"i am holding the pigeon"
If you are outside, you can hold him in your hands, or use a bag, scarf, or loose sock to keep him wrapped up. A local shop may have a cardboard box.
"he is inside my home"
Even if the pigeon is not flying, he may suddenly feel better and start flying around your home. Keep him away from your pets, ceiling fan, mirrors, glass windows, and open doors. If the pigeon is stumbling, place him on a thick folded towel to protect his head in case he falls. Do not leave a stumbling pigeon alone near water.
If he is in your old bird cage, put cardboard over the floor to protect his feet from the wires.
"he is in a cardboard box outside my home"
An animal like a cat, can still get into the box easily. On your balcony, larger birds like crows, seagulls, and hawks may find him.
If you calmly talk to your parents or roommates, they may change their mind. The bathroom, shed, garage, or your closet are all good options inside.
