causes
Pigeons drop their tail feathers easily when they are attacked by a predator in order to escape. They also drop their tail feathers when a rescuer tries to grab them.
Missing tails are usually a sign of another injury or illness which has made the pigeon vulnerable. Please look for other symptoms.
treatment
a pigeon with a missing tail may need wound care if there is blood or missing skin.
If the pigeon was bitten by a cat, he will need antibiotics as soon as possible.
Pigeons with a missing tail may be feeling afraid after a predator attack.
safety
A pigeon with a missing tail needs basic care in a safe place until his tail regrows long enough for them to fly well again. This can be in your home or you can try to find local help. This usually takes 1-2 months, but some pigeons may be able to fly without a tail, or with a partially grown tail.
